Volunteer With Us!
Want to use your skills to make a difference to the lives of hundreds of families every week?
Our goal is to ensure Edinburgh’s South West communities can thrive and that everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
We are firm believers that connections are the key to building communities. Every one of our 250-plus volunteers play an important role in making that happen.
No experience required for any of our roles. A dedicated team of trained project staff support all volunteers. Our only ask is that you are willing to commit a couple of hours each week to the project you’re involved in.
With a variety of volunteer opportunities across our charity, we’re sure to have something to suit anyone’s hobbies and passions.
Volunteering with Space can also give you the opportunity to develop skills in areas such as:
- Gardening
- Social Care
- Youth Work
- Administration
- Event Planning
- Charity Governance
- Education & Training
- Hospitality & Catering
- Early Years Development
We also have progression pathways for those looking to use volunteering experience to find paid employment opportunities. Check out our current roles below.
If you don’t see a role you’re especially keen on, but want to support our work at Space, get in touch. We are always eager to explore new opportunities and find new ways of giving back to our community.
E-mail admin@spacescot.org with your idea for volunteering and we’ll see how we can make it happen.
“Since becoming a befriender, I have been overall happier in my life. Doing something for others really is rewarding; I became a lot more aware of the different lives people live and the struggles they may face. It definitely lets me appreciate my life more. I think it is the best thing I have ever been a part of.”

Bookbug Volunteer
Weekly Bookbug sessions open to parents/carers with babies and children up to five years old. Sessions provide a safe space for parents/carers, along with their babies and children, supporting them to learn new skills and provide a social experience.

Young Carers Group Volunteer
Support our Young Carers Project team in delivering a programme of exciting youth work activities. Groups run from 5-8 p.m., with activities in and outside of The Broomhouse Hub—including trips to places like Gravity trampoline park.

Friday Youth Club Volunteer
Deliver interesting, fun youth work activities for eight- to 16-year-old Youth Club participants. The programme gives young people a much-needed place within their own community to come together and have fun in a safe environment.

Beacon Club Volunteer
The Beacon Club is our fun and enriching daycare service for older people with dementia. People with dementia deserve respect and dignity. We are looking for friendly, understanding volunteers to support staff in day-to-day activities of the club.

Volunteer Youth Befriender
Youth Befriending provides one-to-one support for children and young people aged five to 16. Participants explore new activities and find fresh interests while engaging in local youth provision. We ask volunteers to commit to a couple of hours each week for at least 12 months.
