Our Network

As a community anchor organisation, we understand the importance of being joining a greater network to deliver combined support on a wider, more comprehensive level.

These are some of the initiatives Space is a part of, as well as projects that align with our work in the local area.

If you think anything is missing, feel free to contact us.

OSCR

We’re registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), which is a non-ministerial office and part of the Scottish Administration following commencement of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

They are the independent regulator and registrar for over 25,000 Scottish charities including community groups, religious charities, schools, universities, grant-giving charities and major care providers. Their work as Regulator ultimately supports public confidence in charities and their work.

EVOC

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations’ Council (EVOC) has been supporting the people and communities of Edinburgh since 1868 by developing and promoting the interests and work of voluntary and community organisations. Their focus is on providing services that enable voluntary sector organisations to thrive and working to influence the statutory sector in the creation of conditions that allow the voluntary sector to flourish.

Go Beyond

Focused on local neighbourhoods in Edinburgh’s South West, Go Beyond is a network of trusted local voluntary sector partners. It aims to learn from communities’ experiences as a result of the demand brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together we create spaces of hope, dignity, and respect.

Volunteer Scotland

We also work alongside Volunteer Scotland, which aims to create a Scotland where everyone can volunteer—more often and throughout their lives. The group’s support and guidance ensures volunteering is enjoyable, rewarding, and fulfilling for everyone.

B Healthy Together

Community-led B Healthy Together improves health and well-being by providing various social health activities. In particular, they focus on how everyday life effects health. BHT cares as much about the quality of your emotional and social situation as about your experience of disease or disability.

They provide a range of free services, including cookery classes and community meals, physical activities, and creative groups like knitting club and gardening gang. They work to increase confidence and skills, reduce social isolation, and empower the community to take steps that positively impact their health and wellbeing.

Community One Stop Shop

The Community One Stop Shop (COSS) opened in 2002 to reduce the effects of poverty and hardship within South West Edinburgh.

First called Broomhouse Empowerment Project, it offered an advice service. This later grew to include employability advice, and the current community food bank.

In 2021, the charity launched The Pantry, which allows food bank members to pay for items at a subsidised rate. COSS since became a feature of the community, supporting Broomhouse during challenging times and ensuring better futures for locals.

Befriending Networks

Space is proud to be a member of Befriending Networks; we hold a Quality in Befriending (QiB) Award for our Youth Befriending services. As well as supporting the delivery of high-quality befriending services across the country, it provides a high standard of information, training, quality development, and consultancy.

Local Schools

Space works with two local schools—Broomhouse Primary and St Joseph’s Primary—to help meet the needs of children and improve their wellbeing. As a person-led charity, we rely on input from the community, and are grateful for the schools’ contributions to our services.

Wellbeing Together South West

Formed of SAMH, Big Hearts Community Trust, With Kids, and Space, Wellbeing Together South West is a community partnership which strengthens mental health and wellbeing services for children, young people, and their families.

Thanks to Scottish Government funding, Space works with these organisations and the City of Edinburgh Council to provide essential services to locals aged five to 24 years old, as well as care-experienced people up to the age of 26.

The goal is to provide support at the earliest opportunity, to prevent mental health challenges and reduce the need for intensive mental health services. With a long tradition of strong support from the City of Edinburgh Council and the third sector, we know that the communities in South West Edinburgh value local, in-person support, where possible.

Space also partners with Sighthill and Gorgie Ward councillors to recognise the needs of our community and the best ways to address them. If you would like to raise any community concerns or have questions for our local councillors, you may reach them via the contact details below:
