Thrive is an innovative programme working to improve the mental health and wellbeing of citizens across Edinburgh. The South West Thrive Welcome Team brings together various organisations to enable people to live well and fulfil their potential. The partnership includes Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, SAMH, and the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, working under NHS governance.
Thrive‘s core values include trust, respect, compassion, and a person-centred approach. The goal is to ensure individuals receive the right help at the right time. Thrive offers a fresh and exciting approach to mental health, recognising the impact that living in a high-population city, such as Edinburgh, can have on mental health and wellbeing.
Thrive Peer Support Workers use lived experience of mental health to support others—a well-known tool within recovery services across the world. Peer Work centres on supporting individuals to identify and work toward achievable and meaningful recovery goals through a range of tools, techniques, and experience.
The peer support relationship should facilitate the sharing of personal experiences in a way that is purposeful—modelling personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy, and the sharing of self-help and self-management techniques.
Our Thrive Peer Support Workers recognise lived experience of mental health is a key element in planning and delivering support. They engage with third-sector partners to understand, advocate, and promote the values of mental health recovery principles.
