ESOL Volunteer Teacher
Volunteer Teacher in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
Space @ The Broomhouse Hub’s Learning & Development programme is recruiting volunteer teachers in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to support people who are looking to develop their English language skills at our weekly conversation class (Thursdays @ 10-11:30 a.m.).
Space’s Learning & Development works with a range of the most vulnerable people in society to reduce barriers to employment. We support trainees through a pathway that builds confidence, resilience, and life/work skills so people can access future opportunities, including sustainable paid employment.

- Gain experience in group work and supporting people in a group environment

This is a volunteer role that works for you—regardless of whether you’re working or studying full- or part-time, are out of work, or have retired.
Do you have what it takes to be an ESOL teacher?
Volunteer ESOL teachers can be involved with setting up and running, or helping to run, a group English conversation class (depending on level of experience and confidence).
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in supporting people one-to-one and participate in group work.
Person specification:
- Experience supporting people learning English as a foreign language
- Qualification in ESOL or TEFL (desireable, not essential)
- Motivated and enthusiastic to volunteer for a community organisation in a supportive group training environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Willing to work as part of a larger team
- Reliable and trustworthy; committing to volunteering a minimum of one (1) shift per week for six (6) months, and able to let us know in advance if not able to attend
- Friendly, caring, patient toward others
- Respect toward other people, regardless of background or ability
- Group and one-to-one experience in a community setting (desirable, not essential)
