Beacon Club Volunteer

Would you like to give back to your local community and make a significant difference to older people living in South West Edinburgh?

The Beacon Club is our fun and enriching day-care service for older people with dementia.

We believe that those with dementia are entitled to respect and dignity, and we are passionate about improving the quality of life for our members and their carers.

Support the delivery of our  day-care group

We are looking for people who are friendly, understanding, and have good communication skills to support our staff in the day-to-day activities of the club.

The role will include chatting to club members, taking part in gentle activities that provide fun and stimulation, helping to serve lunch, and generally ensuring members have an enjoyable day.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week between Monday and Thursday and between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

What volunteering can do for you

Benefits of becoming a Beacon Club Volunteer

  • Full training to provide resources and ability to effectively help run Beacon Club sessions
  • Hands-on experience in care for older people; making connections with the many pathways to further training and employability programmes available within our organisation
  • Chance to gain confidence and valuable abilities you can carry forward in future life and work opportunities
  • Ability to engage directly with local community members and build a real connection with wonderful older individuals
  • Knowledge that you are playing a vital role in making a difference to the older people of Broomhouse and the wider South West Edinburgh community, supporting them to lead an enriching and fulfilling life

Remuneration/Expenses

This is an unpaid position. However, reasonable expenses associated with the role—like travel to and from Broomhouse Hub—may be reimbursed. As part of our commitment to ensuring our Beacon Club members are given a fulfilling experience in their time with us at Space, we often plan day trips in the community, which you will be able to enjoy as part of your supporting role (at no cost to yourself).
