Recipe for Street Party success:
- 1 crew of staff members
- 1 throng of volunteers
- 20 information stalls
- 125kg pizza dough
- 600 burger patties
- 170 kg ground meat
- 10 sets of performers
- 3 inflatables
- 1 portable stage
- 1,200 printed maps
- 1 quiet room
- 7 organisational partners
- 1 heaping portion of community spirit
Mix all ingredients together, let stew for a few months, then serve on a sunny August day to more than 1,600 of your neighbours.

The annual Broomhouse Street Party returned on Thursday, 8 Aug., with a selection of Fringe acts, local entertainment, plenty of food, and support for local folks struggling with challenges like social care or cost of living.
‘The Street Party always brings a bit of magic to the area, and this year was no exception,’ according to Space CEO Neil Hay. ‘What this event does best is bring our communities together. For many, times are tough just now, so it was wonderful to see our values of being welcoming and supportive to all unfold with everyone sharing the experience as one.’

BSP stats:
- More than 1,600 people attended between 12 and 4 p.m.
- Staff members each completed an average 18,000 steps (seven miles), in total covering some 280 miles across the day
- We served 2,000 meals over four hours, including 500 pizzas, 600 hamburgers, and 750 portions of chilli
Massive thank you to B Healthy Together, The BIG Project, Community One Stop Shop, St David’s Carrick Knowe Church, and Edinburgh Festival Fringe for helping to bring the Street Party to life.
And to The National Lottery Community Fund, which sponsored the event; Tesco and Asda, which supplied snacks for staff and volunteers; and every single person who lent their time and energy to making BSP happen.
‘I can’t believe how good this is,’ one attendee said. ‘How you are all working so hard with smiles on your faces and providing this for the community.’
