🪄 Space Celebrates Local Carers
Carers Week 2026 (8-14 June) ended with
a magical celebration of unpaid carers
The Broomhouse Hub welcomed 85 members of the South West Edinburgh carers support community for an afternoon of crafts, balloons, music, and so much more.
Folks of all ages enjoyed a charming performance by magician Craig Roe and cuddled up with exotic animals from Wild Encounters, between desgining beaded bracelet, painting rocks, planting flowers, and blowing bubbles.
This year’s Carers Week theme, ‘Building Carer-Friendly Communities’, focuses on creating places, space, services, and groups where unpaid carer are recognised, understood, and supported.
To help combat stigma associated with caring, the annual Carers Week campaign raises awareness of caring, highlights challenges faced by unpaid carers, and helps people identify as carers and access support.
Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, which has supported carers of all ages for many years, runs regular group sessions for young carers (aged five to 18) and young adult carers (aged 16 to 25), as well as monthly meetings for adults (aged 25 and over).
If you or someone you know is a carer looking for help, or a cared-for person wanting to ensure your carer has the support they need, please get in touch via the contact details on our website.

Space @ The Broomhouse Hub’s Friday Youth Club is more than just a venue to hang out. It’s a place to cue fresh opportunities and rack up new friendships.
The pool table becomes a battle ground for friendly rivalries, with both groups taking part in regular competitions to see who will take home the trophy that week.
As soon as The Hub’s doors open, one of the young people is asking for a pen and paper, eager to list participants. A simple tradition, it’s one that brings joy, laughter, and a real sense of belonging.
Over the years, our much-loved pool table has had plenty of use, and is beginning to show it’s age. We are fundraising £300 to replace it with another table so future Youth Club members can keep the game running.
Please donate today and help us continue making Fridays at The Hub something to look forward to. Together, we can make a real difference for young people across Broomhouse.
If you can, please also remember to claim Gift Aid, which adds an extra 25% to your donation at no extra cost to you.
Space @ The Broomhouse Hub delivers more than 20 projects with the help of some 70 staff members and more than 100 volunteers. But we can’t do any of it without support from our amazing South West Edinburgh community.
Every donation—from pennies between the sofa cushions to gifts in your will—makes a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people and vulnerable adults.
Donate online or set up your own fundraiser. New ideas always welcome!
If you want to learn how we can support you, message us on social media (links below) or drop an email to admin@spacescot.org with your contact details.
Thank you for considering Space and our mission to champion community development and bring people together. 🩷
