Space @ The Broomhouse Hub is sharing £20,000 amongst 18 South West Edinburgh organisations to fund community programmes and events over winter.
The investment, awarded last month to Space by Baillie Gifford, will support a wide range of projects, including equipment for sports and athletic clubs, a festive soup kitchen, Christmas events for local families and children, and helping with digital skills.
Neil Hay, Chief Executive, Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, commented:
“A total 3,835 in-person and online public votes were made for projects, covering everything from new equipment and staff costs to festive gatherings and ongoing education. That’s a fantastic response from the local community and shows just how important these small, often volunteer led groups are.”
The 18 projects or organisations receiving funding are:
- B Healthy Together
- Balgreen Nursery School
- The BIG Project
- Bridge 8 Hub
- Broomhouse Community Growers
- City Star Majorettes
- Community One Stop Shop
- Community Wellbeing Collective
- I Love Broomhouse
- Mind Switch
- Murrayburn Parent Council
- People Know How
- Space Friday Youth Group
- St Augustine’s High School Rugby Club
- Starcatchers
- SW Edinburgh 20-Minute Neighbourhoods
- West Edinburgh Majorettes
- The WHY Project
Applications had to include one or more priorities, including; reducing social isolation, improving communication, employment opportunities, supporting families in need, and community wellbeing.
Neil Hay added:
“As we continue to deal with cost-of-living challenges, this is a particularly difficult time of year for many people. Thanks to Baillie Gifford, we have been able to spread a little bit of Christmas cheer a few weeks early.
“We are also hoping to be able to open up The Hub for small community groups at weekends in the near future and we will have more details on our social media pages in the coming weeks.”
