Position: Carers Project Worker
Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible working pattern to be agreed; hours can be split
over 4 or 5 days, but must include Wednesday and Thursday evenings to
facilitate group sessions)
Salary: £30,581 pro-rata
Pension: 5% employer’s contribution
Annual leave: 32 days pro-rata, increasing to 37 days (pro-rata) in year two of
employment; this includes a two-week break over the Christmas and New
Year period
Location: The Broomhouse Hub, EH11 3RH (hybrid working options available)
Term: Funded to 31 March 2028
PVG: Post reqires PVG membership; Space will process and pay for successful
candidate

The Role
The purpose of this role is to improve the quality of life of carers in South West Edinburgh, providing support, information, advocacy, advice, and connections through a whole-family approach.
The project worker will provide one-to-one and group support to carers who are in 4th, 5th, and 6th year of school as well as carers aged 16 to 25 years who are not in school.
The post holder will work closely will staff who are supporting carers in other age ranges to aid smooth transitions between groups.
Day to day you’ll be:
- Providing regular one-to-one support sessions to carers, creating person-centred development plans, building in regular reviews to monitor progress
- Carrying out home visits for new referrals
- Producing Young Carers‘ statements for carers in 4th, 5th, and 6th year of school
- Producing Carers’ Support Plans for carers aged 16 to 25 years who are not in school
- Accompanying carers on excursions where individual support is required
- Planning and running carers group activities on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for two age groups
- Consulting with carers to create a schedule of fun, engaging, age-appropriate activities that provide carers with some respite from their caring role and encourage peer connection
- Planning and attending annual residential trips for both age groups
The successful person for this role will:
- Have a minimum of three years’ experience working with young people under 25 years, including delivering individual and group work
- Have a creative approach to delivering age-appropriate, engaging group activities whilst adhering to strict budgets
- Be available to work until 8:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and Thursday to run carers group sessions
- Have a natural ability to form appropriate relationships with teenagers and young adults
- Have a sound understanding of and sensitive approach to the needs and difficulties faced by young people, in particular those in a caring role
- Be conversant with the principles of GIRFEC and their application in practice
