Broomhouse Beacon Club members were joined at their Monday dance class by a special guest: Scotland’s First Minister, Humza Yousaf.
The weekly dance programme—an ongoing collaboration with DN Dance Edinburgh, Edinburgh Community Performing Arts CIC, and tutor Emma Stewart Jones—gives service users a chance to get active, have fun, and express themselves through movement.
Attending ‘a proper dance studio with a proper dance teacher makes the experience feel extra special and I haven’t found this anywhere else in Edinburgh,’ according to one Club member.

‘These sessions are a highlight of the week for many of the participants, as they enjoy the fun of being in a purpose-built dance studio,’ Beacon Club Manager Seraph Davidson said. ‘Each session is a chance for participants to boost their wellbeing with music and movement, plus the all-important time for a cuppa and a blether. Is there a better way to start the week?’
The Beacon Club is Space @ The Broomhouse Hub’s day-care service for older people with dementia and those facing social isolation or loneliness.
