Children starting school this August are being encouraged to get involved in The Great Edinburgh Bear Hunt over the summer holidays!
Edinburgh Bear will be popping up all over the city from Wednesday 28th June to Friday 18th August, including a wee stop here at the Broomhouse Hub! When they spot him, families should tweet his location using The Great Edinburgh Bear Hunt hashtag – #EdinBearHunt. The aim was to create a fun and accessible activity so that families can take part in the Bear Hunt while going about their usual activities, or even make a day of it and see how many they can find in one go, the choice is theirs!
Several local companies are supporting the project so Edinburgh Bear will be hiding in all sorts of places, from public transport to sports facilities, libraries to shops and festival venues.
In addition, there will be different Bear Hunt themed activities to access via the Council website at or using the QR Code below every week, so everyone can get involved.
The hunt is part of City of Edinburgh Council’s annual transition project, which aims to provide a common experience for all children starting primary school in the city. The project began in 2020, when Covid restrictions meant that normal transition activities couldn’t go ahead and other ways of bringing new classmates together had to be found. It proved so popular that it has continued, with new elements being added each year.
This is the first year that The Great Edinburgh Bear Hunt has run, and the organisers hope it will be a great success. Happy hunting Edinburgh!
