Every child in Broomhouse and the wider South West Edinburgh community can benefit from a free lunch during the school holidays as we bring back our ‘Kids Go Free’ initiative. From the 28th of June to the 15th of August, any child that visits our community café in between 12pm and 1:30pm is entitled to receive a hot meal, completely free of charge.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues to add pressure to hard-working families all across Edinburgh, we recognise the need for free or low-cost provisions to help bridge the gap left by free school meals available during term time. Last year, we served more than 2,200 free meals to hungry children through the Kids Go Free initiative. Thanks to the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities Fund, we can carry on providing this much-needed offer to the local community.
There are absolutely no requirements put in place, all children are entitled to a free lunch. Parents do not need to purchase anything first in order for their child to receive their meal, no registration is required, and there is no need to demonstrate receipt of any type of benefit at all.

Older children who are capable of making their way to the Broomhouse Hub without supervision are more than welcome as well, as they do not need their parents or carers present to receive their free meal. The café menu will feature its regular rotation of delicious nutritional food alongside firm child-friendly favourites such as mac ‘n’ cheese, ensuring there is something for even the most discerning of picky eaters!
