Volunteers’ Week is a nationwide campaign that takes place every year between the 1st and the 7th of June. It’s a time for charities like ours to take a moment to thank all of our volunteers, both past and present, and recognise their incredible efforts towards our projects. Without the help of our wonderful volunteers, our work would not be possible and their contribution is vital in ensuring we can deliver the support that our community needs and deserves.
This year’s theme is ‘Celebrate and Inspire’, which hopes to highlight that our diversity is our strength and that there is more than one way to volunteer and give back to the community. No matter where your volunteering takes place – if that’s in our Space Kitchen, at our Friday night Youth Club, or out in the wider community – your role is just as important as the next.
Volunteers are the heart of every community across the UK, and your contribution has never been more important than in recent times. A very well deserved thank you to all of Space’s volunteers for your hard work and dedication to helping our community thrive.
The Joy of Volunteering
Robert, who recently joined us as a volunteer for the Beacon Club, tells us all about what inspired him to get involved and the benefits of volunteering.
While volunteering gives back to the community around you, it can be just as rewarding for you as well. It can help to give you a sense of purpose, an opportunity to develop new skills, and the chance to share your interests and hobbies with others. It’s never too late to get involved, and we have a range of roles available to suit people from all backgrounds, skill levels, and capabilities. Most of our roles only require a couple of hours of commitment each week, with the likes of our Friday Youth Group and Befriending projects ideal for those who don’t have the time during the working day to help out.
